Effective transition from primary to secondary school

Porthcawl Comprehensive School ensures that support programmes are put in place to help pupils with the transition from primary to secondary school. Questionnaires are used to identify children that have particular concerns and these pupils are then invited to join the ’Helping Hands’ group.
The school arranges extra visits for any pupils that are anxious about the change and host sessions where issues can be discussed. Parents are also engaged in the programme which helps ease any of their own concerns.
These intiatives have been very successful. The emotional wellbeing of students has improved and attendance has increased.

We are delighted that Estyn recognised Porthcawl’s excellent transition programme from primary to secondary school. You can read the full report on this website PARENTS - Inspection Report
