Literacy and numeracy skills are essential in order for young people to reach their potential.
The National Literacy and Numeracy Framework (LNF) has been developed to help achieve the Welsh Government’s aim that the children of Wales are able to develop excellent literacy and numeracy skills during their time at school.
The framework has a series of expectation statements, which set out the skills the Welsh Government expect learners to develop in school from ages 5 to 14. So at Porthcawl the pupils in years 7 à 9 will be covering the LNF from September 2013.
It is the intention of the Welsh Government that pupils and parents/carers will benefit from a clearer understanding of the literacy and numeracy skills, learning needs and progression that the LNF will provide.
Each year pupils will be tested on their literacy and numeracy skills; this started during the summer of 2013 when all pupils sat the National Reading and Numeracy tests. As each stage of the implementation of the LNF is rolled out, we will keep you informed.
